Our guts quake and the whole world rocks
on the waves you make while all our clocks
tick down and things, souls, slip by.
Give us one song, God,
one chord, Lord:
we pace lines in the sand
at the edge of understanding
what's next:
rutting deeper on these shores or
casting ourselves through the breakers,
into the tide and the current
that carries us beyond.

I loved the sea.
Yes, its shore, but -- more --
Its disappearing;
The horizon and the mist.
Then looking out across I saw
It was the sky I loved,
And the sea to take me there.
I'm not sure why your words made me think of that, but at any rate, you captured the illusive quality of the ocean and of life. I love them both, and I know the question well.
Yeah, I'll try to introduce myself the next time I see you. You're always talking, though.
Yes, yes I am -- always talking. Don't my friends know it! See you soon.
